Thanks,Amber,

I had never seen a surf scoter up close and that was very cool to see some that day. Glad you enjoyed the ducks. Check out the post just above this one. There is a link that has some very nice close shots of the same type of waterfowl if you want to see more.

I really enjoyed your post! These are great pictures, and all birds that I have not seen before (with my own eyes). The Surf Scoter is super-cool. Thanks!

Hi Lori,

I use a Nikon Coolpix P5100 point and shoot with a Swarovski 80HD ATS scope for my digiscoping shots. For regular photography I have a Canon D20 SLR and use a 300mm with that.

I don't know a lot about the other cameras out there. I think are a lot of good ones. Bird Forum is a good site to go check out. You can do a search on digiscoping to find forums where people discuss the pros and cons of different cameras. Another thing I did was just cruise through some bird blogs with photos and see what those people used.

Mike's Bird and Digiscope Blog is another good site (if you haven't already checked it out) for more detailed info on just digiscoping in general. He does discuss some of the cameras.

If you want more info on my set up - click on my Page entitled: what I use and Why.

Meanwhile, I think it's great you're into photographing birds and nature. When you decide on a camera, let me know what you pick and how you like it. I'm always interested in getting first hand info on other options.

Great photos - loved your blog. I am an amateur nature photographer (mostly birds) and am in the process of evaluating new cameras. What did you use to take these photos (camera/lense)?
